Firenze to Rome Tennis and Wine Tour – June 30th to July 10th

The beautiful seaside resort of Marina di Grosseto is our base for our first four days, with the tennis club located close to major hotels and the beach. We get familiar with the red clay in practices and play friendly matches at Marina Tennis Club and Tennis Club Europa 2000. We are one hour away from the fortress/castle town of Montalcino, home to some of the finest wineries in Italy, which we will visit. The wine tour includes an explanation of wines like the Brunello red and Vino Nobile do Montepulciano.

We move on to the old university town of Siena for friendly matches and the Paleo Festival, which is a world famous horse race taking place on July 2nd of each year. Ten of Siena’s 17 neighborhoods compete and will view the race form the Il Campo, the main square in Siena. We then go to the celebration for the neighborhood winning the race.

We continue our Italian tour in Florence, the home of the Renaissance, with friendly matches against 2 different clubs in and around the city. Singles and doubles for each player. We also visit a local vineyard in the town of Greece. The city itself, voted the #1 tourist destination for Americans in Europe in a recent travel magazine survey, features many sights from the Uffizi Gallery to Michaelangelo’s David at the Academia. Great shopping and restaurant town as well.

We conclude in Rome, The Eternal City, with many historical and cultural sights such as the Forum, Colosseum and the Vatican. We also play our final friendly match against a tennis club where we are assured a warm welcome.
